Ghani Secures Majority of Votes in Preliminary Election


The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) announced Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani the winner of Afghanistan’s preliminary presidential election.


According to the statement shared by the IEC, the top three candidates that secured majority of the votes are Mohammad Ashraf Ghani (50.64%), Abdullah Abdullah (39.52), and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar (3.85%).


At the same time, IEC’s reports regarding other candidates’ votes is as follows:

Rahmatullah Nabil: 33,921 (1.86%)

Noorullah Jalali: 15,526 (0.85%)

Abdul Latif Pedram: 12,608 (0.19%)

Faramarz Tamana: 18,066 (0.99%)

Ahmad Wali Massoud: 3,942 (0.22%)

Hakim Torsan: 6,504 (0.36%)

Farooq Nejrabi: 1,606 (0.09%)

Noor Rahman Liwal: 865 (0.05%)

Mohammad Shahab Hakimi: 3,324 (0.18%)

Enayatullah Hafiz: 11,374 (0.062%)

Noorul Haq Ulumi: Withdrew

Shaida Mohammad Abdali: Withdrew

Ibrahim Alkozai: Withdrew

Zalmay Rassoul: Withdrew

Hanif Atmar: Withdrew


Nevertheless, people expect the final result of 2019 presidential election to be announced soon.
